What we offer
The RF Lab offers:
- A high power test-stand at 12GHz (European X-Band)
The RF station is able to produce 1 µs RF pulse length with a peak power of 50 MW at 50Hz repetition rate. Alternatively if used with a pulse compressor system (SLED type) the peak power is up to 200 MW with a RF pulse lenght of 100ns.
- un banco di strumenti estremamente completo e raffinato per la misura della risposta in frequenza a bassa potenza (dell’ordine di 1 W in onda continua) di componenti e dispositivi elettronici fino a 100 GHz, e per la misura di segnali nel dominio del tempo e della frequenza fino a 20 GHz.
Technology
The X-Band test stand allows a full characterization of accelerating structures and RF components for particle accelerator. High electromagnetics fields and high frequency impose the use of special state of the art construction techniques. In order to reach the nominal parameters a long conditioning process (in the order of hundred hours) is required. The X-Band test stand is able to modulate the input power and RF pulse length in order to reach a gradual and sustainable conditioning process limiting breakdown phenomena which can damage the componets.
Potential users
X-Band technology is becoming more and more used in a broad range of technology: Research, particle accelerator, telecommunication, medical diagnostics devices.
One of the most promising application is the development of compact electron accelerator (used of example in intra-operatory radiation treatment), which can be used for compact X or Gamma sources for radiation therapy, but also monochromatic X ray sources, THz sources and electron linear accelerator for industrial application.
Every potential users can benefit of the expertise and technical-scientific support of INFN. In particular local companies that already work in the field of particle accelerator can benefit of this infrastructure to improve their technical capabilities in the market.
